What is Adapt ?

Adapt is a small charity who provide support to families with premature and unwell babies on the neonatal units at Leicester Royal Infirmary and Leicester General Hospital. We also provide ongoing care after families have gone home.

Having a premature or poorly baby can happen to anyone and because everything occurs so quickly and usually unexpectedly, it can leave you feeling upset, confused, scared and vulnerable.

Although the medical care these babies receive is amazing, what happens to the parents who are living day by day or sometimes hour by hour, not knowing whether their tiny, poorly baby will survive can be a very traumatic experience.

We have family support workers who visit the Neonatal Units in both hospitals. They are in daily contact with all new parents at the hospitals, giving them the support and help they need in any way they can whether it be just a friendly face to talk to or help with more practical and financial issues.

As our support workers are part time you may miss them but do not hesitate to call or email - details are available on our Contact Us page - and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.

We rely solely on donations to continue to support families of premature babies. There are a number of ways you can help.

Donate via Virgin Money Giving - whether it is a large or small donation, all contributions make a difference and are appreciated. Further details on ways to donate can be found on our Shop & Donate page.

Support us at one of our advertised fundraisers or even organise your own! You can find details of all upcoming events on our What's On page.

Six years ago Louise Barsby had daughter Macie at 27 weeks. It is so so humbling to know that all these years later they still remember ADAPT and the support we gave her. Louise's mum Karen Wright from Glenfield recently shaved her head to raise money for us and raised nearly £1,000 which is fantastic achievement. Well done Karen, we all appreciate your kindness even if we do all think you were a little crazy too!!! Above are the before and after photos of Karen and one with her granddaughter Macie. Thank you for your support!!!
