What is ADAPT
(All Dependent And Pre Term Babies & Children)
ADAPT is a support network for families in Leicester/ Leicestershire & Rutland who have had either a premature baby or baby needing special neonatal care. This support is available when a baby is in a neonatal/special care baby unit and afterwards when the baby is home with his/her family.
ADAPT is a charitable, independent organisation set up by parents who themselves have experienced the trauma and anxiety of having a baby on a neonatal unit. It is managed by a voluntary committee, mostly made up of individuals who are all familiar with what families go through when they have a sick baby.
ADAPT provides a service to anyone involved with the care of a baby on the neonatal unit and can put you in touch with other parents and families who have been through a similar experience. Should you wish to talk to an understanding parent who is an empathic listener, or speak to our Family Support Co-ordinator
Lindsay Rajczyk, then please telephone the ADAPT support line on 07974 822 835 or email
info@prembabies.co.uk.
We also understand that Fathers needs and emotions can sometimes be overlooked, therefore ADAPT offers a fathers support network. These fathers talk with you and listen to your concerns; concerns they have probably felt themselves during their stay on the unit remember you are not alone.
We must stress that ADAPT does not give medical advice. The doctors and nurses on the unit will discuss your babys treatment and care with you but we can help you to understand the medical terminology that you perhaps do not fully understand at this difficult time.
